School Girl

Anna loves preschool. She often wakes up and asks if it is Tuesday or Thursday, the days she goes to preschool. This is a cooperative preschool...meaning the parents are required to take turns helping out in the classroom. Anna was Star Child a few weeks ago so both Jeff and I had the opportunity to help out (and we actually did have a lot of jobs to do...preparing snack, cleaning up, checking backpacks for notes, helping with the project of the day, etc.). It was a lot of fun and we got to see how much fun Anna was having at school.

Yesterday after school Anna was so excited to give me a "special" envelope. Inside it was her first progress report. The teacher assesses the students in different areas such as: Social development, emotional development, speech/language, listening skills, and self-help skills. There are about 20 skills that were assessed, and overall Anna did great! On all but two skills she received A's (the A stands for "Almost Always" masters this skill). The two skills that she got P's in (she exhibits this skill "Part of the time") were sharing and self-control. No surprises there!!! In fact if I'm surprised that she didn't get the lowest score of S (Still developing this skill). She has NEVER been keen on sharing. And the self-control issue was seen first hand by her teachers. They had to pull her off not one, but TWO boys one day when they took a toy away from her. At least I know that she can hold her own!
